Planning, planning, planning

If there is one thing I have learned during doing my coursework, it is that planning is the key. Shooting my short film was so easy with having the storyboard by hand. If there are a2's in the future who read this: plan every detail out before you start filming and editing!! I just looked at the storyboard and did exactly what I wrote down.

Music copyright E-mail (Proof)

In my short film I used a turkish instrumental song called 'sonsuza kadar' which I had heard on a soap on TV called 'intikam' (revenge). Since the owner of the music is Turkish I have written a Turkish e-mail.

TRANSLATION:

Hello,

I am a 18 year old student and I study at a college in England. I have to make a short film and would like to use your song 'sonsuza kadar' which is used in the Intikam series. Could you please give me permission to use your music? I will give your name and copyright.

I am looking forward to receive a response,

Ecesu Ozevin

Short film poster PROGRESS

Today I have started to make my short film poster. Basically this is a draft, but as soon as I have my images (there have been difficulties with my actors again!!) I will be done. This is what I have done in one lesson.
I have added gradient to the title, 'know your enemy' and the date. Also I have mirrored the R in 'MR' but I'm not sure if I'm going to leave it that way since I don't think it looks too nice.

This is a close up of the credits. I am written everywhere :)

Today I did the photoshoot with albert, however I forgot to take a screenshot of all the pictures. It just came to my mind while deleting the pictures to put this on my blog. However, the shoot went well and I believe I have managed to create a similar effect to wha tI wanted. Albert didn't have much time, therefore it took us only around 15 minutes to take the pictures. Also the photoshop document is deleted from my computer, so I have to start over and finish it today. I will make exactly the same page as I had before (above).
I have put one light on above albets head, to create a dark effect. I will change the image in photoshop.

Magazine film review PROCESS

I have started to select stills to use in my double page spread magazine review. The reason I have chosen these is because they reveal the most identity there is shown in the short movie. In the end I have chosen the still with the couple and the extreme close up of his face.
I have chosen the extreme close up because this is the only shot that reveals a sense of identity of mr. Brown. Also you can see his red eyes which show that there is something wrong with him.
The reason I have chosen the shot of the couple is to mislead the audience in that mr. Brown is the good guy he portrays himself as from the start until the last scene. Seeing a still like this will make the audience think that there is a happy family picture while the plot is that there is not. This refers back to the fact to my misleading plot in the short movie; this is reflected back in the film review.

I have started to fill in the lay out for my double page spread. The colour sceme I have chosen is yellow, since it is a colour that stands out. I am not going to use the colour black, I have reduced the blackness to 90%. This will give the page a softer look, also it will look more professional. I have placed two stills on the page, one bigger than the other. The reason I have chosen the extreme close up shot to be smaller than the other image is because there is only one person seen. The still with the happy couple reveals more and gives the audience more clues on what is in the movie. I have photoshopped the extreme close up of mr. Brown's face and deleted the spots, since this will look more professional.

After the lesson I went to the library and I have started to write the journalism. The only part left is the writing and some details such as pagenumbers etc. This is what I have now.

My double page spread is ALMOST done. I have finished the writing (but I'm still thinking about a last sentence to end the page with). The only thing I need to do is fill in the 'did you know' box and add something under the extreme close up of Albert's face, which will probably be a quote. I feel very happy about what I have now and I have managed to do this in two days which will give me more time to update my blog and start my film poster. Also I have decided to use two colours, yellow-ish and dark red, since the yellow suits the top image and red suits the little image. The colours contrast nice together, and it doesn't make the page too crowded. Also I found that only one colour would be too boring.
